This topic is dedicated to Larsa. Don't ask why....I just felt like making a topic.

Am I the only one who thought Larsa was a girl until they played the actual game? The concept art really makes Larsa look like a woman.

And does anyone else think Larsa should have been in the main party? I certainly do. I would not have minded if Vaan and Penelo weren't even characters. The game would have been just as fine casting Ashelia or Basch as the lead characters. (Technically they were and Vaan was there just to serve as the observer....but oh well)

I had the same situation here; but I guess we can't be blamed because he does look like a little girl lol. I thought he was a girl even after he joined the party using the name Lemont, I found out that he was in fact a boy after Balthier said something about him being the son of Solidor.

Vaan is the most worthless character ever, he wasn't the main character at all, simply because he played "zero" role in the story. The same thing goes for Penelo. So I agree with you that Vaan and Penelo should be deleted from the list of characters, but I don't see Larsa being that much of a great character if he joins the party.

I don't know, he just seems like he would have had a reason to fight too....even if he is 12 years old or something, lol.

But even if Larsa just continued to be a random npc in the party, having a 4-man team during the entire game would have been awesome. Basch, Ashe, Balthier and Fran. I think 12 would have been more accepted had it just been those 4.

All of the battles in the game are very easy; the player can go eat something while the characters do the job by themselves, that's why I see no need for another character to be in the party, there are already two worthless ones, no need for a third.

Yeah, I agree; the game would have been more accepted without a whinny "main character" wandering around doing nothing. Even though I am not a big fan of Ashe and Basch but at least they were involved in the story.I personally think the storyline would have been better if Balthier was more included in it. His story is great and it would have been a wonderful addition to the whole "princess story".

You said it.
But it seems that I can't stop arguing about how much better it would have been if few things were different... well a lot of things quit frankly.

I previously said everything I have to say about this game in here

I actually played about 20 hours wondering if Larsa was a girl or a Boy. I mean it's possible for girls to have somewhat butch voices lol. Yes, Larsa seemed like an unnecessary character.

A lot of people are disappointed with FFXII, I started off loving it but never ended up finishing it, since after the Cid battle I honestly had no idea what I was doing or hoping to achieve in the game.

When games stop becoming fun and start becoming work, it gets hard to continue playing.

Went off on a bit of a rant there lol

I actually didnt know he was a boy until he started talking XD but I do think he should have been a character to have in your party all the time. Not that it would have helped the game much...they really did drop the ball on this one XD

I didn't mind him as a 'character', but all of the characters in the game were pretty shallow. I think I could see where they were going with Ashe, Basch, and Balthier. (Fran too, but I don't really like Fran anyway, lol) I was also pleased that they did NOT have a love story. As much fun as FF8 and X were, I was ready for something a little different. And FF12 delivered a more political story.

I played through it twice and the second time through I got the story and loved it. It just wasn't delivered like the stories were in other games, and I think that's what hurt it's rep.

It most certainly was not the greatest of Final Fantasies, but from all of the ones I've played, it was most certainly better than FF1-5 for me. Maybe even 6. I didn't enjoy IX all that much (with the exception of Steiner). 7 and X were just brilliantly executed. 8 was fun but at points was laughable, and don't even make me talk about X-2 (even if the girls were hot...).

Oh well.

I read somewhere that Larsa's name was based off of some sort of Mesopotamian city. I haven't actually looked into it though. Have any of you?

... get out...
7, 8, 9, 10 ... some of the best games of all time, because they were love stories, the characters had deep emotional ties to each other and the player...

Final Fantasy without a love story? Maybe that's why I had such a deep seated hatred for 12... other than the fact the story was just predictable garbage and there was 0 character development, the game was so programmable you didn't have to play it and the ending was 8 seconds long... Yeah, great game :roll
The only recognizable good points of the game where the hunting thing and the fact you could go over 100 hours, and the playboy bunny village... that's about it.

when you play FF you EXPECT a love story
...and im sure there where at least SOME political espects int he other game
the love thing wasnt the only part of the story nor the main

you loved the ff12 story though?
....there was a story?XD
i just thought there where random convo's to push the game alongXD

the in depth story and the way you can relate to the characters is what MAKES FF and FF12 really didnt have any of that they didnt do anything fro the characters

the only good point like fith said
where the bunny ladies XD

although your right 12 was crapXD
they ruined the ff10 sotry
which ended fine
we didnt need tidus back XD
the last boss took one attempt and was EASY AS HELL
last bosses should be DAMN EFFIN HARD TO THE POINT YOU THROW THE CONTROLLER THROUGH THE SCREEN! XD
and the story was just, not up to par XD

I never said it wasn't easy. It's just I still was entertained. And I don't play FF for the love stories so much as I do the fact that enjoy the games themselves. The hard parts of the game were the optional boss fights. The extra summons and such.

Really though I found all of the Final Fantasies to be easy. FF7 I completed with like 4,000 hp (I was in 3rd grade). FF8 I was pretty weak too. Never finished 9, didn't like it all that much (except for Steiner). FFX my team was Tidus, Yuna, and Auron. Auron had 5k hp, while tidus and yuna were on the low-end of 3k. FF12 I actually died a few times because I didn't grind. The previous FF's (none of which I grinded) I never died much at all. The scorpion spider "thing" in Nibelheim mountains killed me once, as did my first time fighting Sephiroth's final form. Ultimecia killed me once and that was the only death I remember. FF9 I didn't die at all (got to about the end of disk 2 and never put it back in). FFX....uh...never did die lol. FF12 I died several times.

But all in all Final Fantasy itself is not a difficult game unless you do the side stuff. Emerald and Ruby weapons were a pain in the behind. Ultima Weapon in FF8 slapped me around. Some of the extra summon battles in X were quite ruthless. And the extra summons in 12 were evil at times.

The ending of 12 was 8 minutes about and it made a good close to the story.

From your post I'm getting the feeling that you're over-exaggerating due to your distaste in the game. As much as I agree it was weak for a FF title, the bulk of your post isn't true from my point of view. Basch and Fran had the most development, which means there was not 0 development. Balthier was easily the most thought-out and interesting character, yet he had less development than Penelo (lol).

And call me crazy, but the only Final Fantasies (7+) that I recall having a genuine focus on 'love' were Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy X. Keep in mind I never got into 9. Only character I liked was Steiner, and the style of the game itself turned me off. 7 did not have a love story, and I think people seem to misinterpret Cloud's feelings for Aerith as being "love". He thought he was Zack basically. Became utterly confused and had some mental issues. Naturally Aerith saw some Zack in him and cared for him, but I never remember Cloud being attracted to Aerith until she had died, and that was not attraction. That was depression and self-blame. If anything he liked Tifa, and the only 'love' instances from that entire relationship were the first hour when he joined Avalanche in 7th Heaven, and the ending just outside of the Highwind in front of the Crater.

So I'll have to say that FF7 hardly qualifies as a genuine love story. And if it's intent was to be a love story, it did a piss-poor job at it.

FFXII had a love story...it was just subtle...that part didnt bother me though. I dont think the problem was that there was 0 character development as much as all there was no character development on your main playable character and there needs to be. The plot was good in theory...and I can see a lot of thought went into how complex the politics were...which is a good thing. The only problem is because your main character is so underdevloped there is hardly anything at all to tie you to the politics that are going on other then the fact that square is pushing you along to do so. So then basically your just stuck at why should I care? And I just kept waiting for your main character to insert himself into the story more then some loose ties, and it just never happens.

Of all the games this one would be way down on my list. 7 and 9 are my favorites but I also thought 6(which I havent finished) and 10 were awesome. 8 was good but not one of my favorites and the rest just really arent worth mentioning because they were good but didnt especially stand out in anyway. The only ff game I have played that is worse then 12 was 10-2 and that really isnt saying much XD

I don't know how you missed the fact that cloud was deeply in love with Aerith and Tifa was never his love interest, they were best friends growing up and that's all. That would be why Cloud chases Aerith all over the world before Sephiroth kills her and hunts down Sephiroth with such great passion afterwards. 9 was the most prominent love story out of the group, only one that comes close is 10.

I thought Larsa was a girl until they called him a he in the game because well he has a FEminine haircut and his "tunic" looks more like a dress of course he's also a little kid.

Anyway I think that FFXII as a game was an experiment, they wanted to test a new fighting style and such. The storyline wasn't given much thought neither was character interaction with the story...but the gameplay mechanics seemed to be just to see how the fans would reacti to it and I hate to admit but I kind of liked the idea of being able to run around on screen while fighting but I like that better on Valkyrie Profile 2 where the enemy has an attack like and you can stand out of that line and attack.
