Busy Women’s Guide to Wardrobe Organisation

The bane of every woman’s nightmare is having a wardrobe full of clothes and nothing to wear. It can be so frustrating trying to find the Perfect Outfit to suit your particular days schedule, whilst maintaining your sense of individuality and style. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Have a Closet Purge

Go through your wardrobe and disregard everything that you have not worn within the past 12 months, anything that is damaged beyond repair and everything that does not make you feel good about yourself. The last you want is to put on a pair of mediocre pants that make you feel mediocre all day. People notice.

Hang Like with Like

Hang all your jackets together, ranging from light to dark. Have all your shirts together, with similar sleeve lengths and colours together. All your pants need to be hung on appropriate hangers, either folded over tubular hangers or hung on a skirt hanger. Another tip is to keep work clothes separate from casual clothes, but follow the same principles.

Check your Schedule

The night before, check your diary and take note of the activities you have planned. Are you going to work and then out for drinks with friends? Or heading out shopping in the morning followed by your daughters gymnastics meet in the afternoon? Planning your outfit the night before, preparing the essentials and even taking the outfit out of the closet and hanging it over a door saves time and stress in the morning. Add whatever accessories that fit your mood when you get dressed.

Create a “LookBook”

A Look Book is a folder of photographs of outfits from your wardrobe. Take an afternoon when there is no-one home and play with your clothes. Mix different outfits, play with different clothing combinations and change accessories. When you find an outfit that works for you, take a photo of it, either on you or hanging on a clothes hanger. These photos will create a Look Book that you can refer back to whenever you feel as though you are stuck for an outfit. Do this for work clothing, casual clothing and other outfits you may come across.

Have Everything in Your Wardrobe Visible

As they say, out of sight, out of mind. If you can see it, you will wear it.

These few simple guidelines will make dressing a breeze, and you will never be stuck for something to wear again. Having an organised closet with everything visible, plus a “lookbook” on hand, will make dressing for any day, any occasion and any situation easy, and most of all, fun.
