The Best Original Song at the Golden Globes was awarded to Glory of hip-hop star Common from the movie Selma on Monday.
The award was collected by Common and his co-writer John Legend from singer Prince. The award was the only success at Golden Globes for the movie even though it was nominated for best actor, best director and best picture.
The other nominations in the Best Original Song category were Big Eyes from Big Eyes, Mercy Is from Noah, Opportunity from Annie and Yellow Flicker Beat from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I.
While accepting the award the 42-year-old rapper and actor Common said he found the movie to be bigger than other when he first time stepped on its set. Selma has awakened his humanity.
It is also expected Glory may be an Oscar contender. Grammy’s is going to be held in February and Common has been nominated for two awards there. If luck favors, he will be grabbing the best rap album award for Nobody’s Smiling and also best rap collaboration award for Blak Majik.
Meanwhile, it isf to take note lyrics of Glory also has references to the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, that happened last year in August after fatal shooting of Michael Brown. It is as below:
“…That’s why we walk through Ferguson with our hands up.
When it go down we woman and man up,
They say, “Stay down” and we stand up.”
