Axe Throwing Is the New Must in Your Niagara Bachelor Party Plans

Planning one last night of freedom for your best bud in Canada’s answer to Las Vegas? Be warned, not all bachelor parties are created equally. Over plan it, and it might just feel like you’re going through the motions, but don’t plan enough, and you’ll be lucky to get in anywhere. Here are some quick tips for planning a time that the groom and all of his friends will enjoy.

#1 Down time: If you’re going to Niagara, you’re likely going to be staying for the weekend. Make sure you plan some downtime in the morning or afternoon so that you can recover for the next thing on your list. Find a no-stress breakfast restaurant (or take out option) and a chilled out activity after your first night.

#2 Make reservations: Know how many people will be attending and make reservations wherever you plan on eating, whatever you plan on doing.

#3 Be original: Whether or not you wind up at the casino or the strip club, Niagara Falls has plenty of alternatives. If you want to plan a truly original weekend, think outside the box with at least one surprise.

For a truly original bachelor party weekend in Niagara Falls, though, skip the casino and plan something with a gentleman’s class and style. By autumn 2016, you’ll be able to go axe throwing at BATL Niagara Falls (also known as the Backyard Axe Throwing League), the favorite sport of any Canadian gentleman. Axe throwing actually has been surging in popularity across the country over the last few years, and it’s an ideal bachelor party activity. Although individuals and smaller groups can still show up for casual tournaments, bigger groups mean you can turn the game into a real competition.

 Here’s how it works:

  • First, the instructors at BATL teach everyone in the group one-on-one the ins and outs of axe throwing, from stance to follow throw.
  • Once everyone has a handle on the mechanics, there’s a round robin tournament where everyone has a chance to face off. This is a great chance to start ragging on the groom – unless it turns out he’s a crack shot.
  • Finally, you start a knock-out phase to determine who will walk away as the axe throwing champion of the evening.

Axe throwing is a sport that Canadians have been flocking to over the last decade, ever since BATL first opened in a Toronto warehouse in 2006. It’s a classic sport that will complete the Canadian experience of Niagara. After you develop your hatchet handling skills, touring Niagara’s two major distilleries can round out a gentlemen’s weekend in Niagara. A short drive away in Grimsby is the Forty Creek Whisky Distillery, makers of some of the best Canadian whisky available. The region is also home to the Dillon’s Distillery, known for their white rye and gin, which you can tour in groups. Between touring some of the best whisky distilleries in the country and going head-to-head in an axe throwing competition, your bachelor party is going to be an authentically Canadian experience.
