Natural disasters can and will happen at any time and place within any part of the world. Disturbing volcano eruptions, heat waves, cold waves, earthquakes, and mud landslides are all considered a part of the natural disaster world. They can have deadly consequences for those unfortunate victims in their paths. Listed here are five of the worst natural disasters ever recorded.
The 1931 Yellow River (Huang He River) flood in China.
The 1887 Yellow River (Huang He River) flood in China.
The 1938 Yellow River (Huang He River) flood in China
The Bhola Cyclone of 1970 in East Pakistan (Bangladesh)
The 1556 Shaanxi Earthquake in China.
China Leads In Natural Disaster Deaths
What is very odd is how the nation of China has had the highest number of casualties on the list of natural disasters. Hundreds of billions of Yuan (dollars) are lost because of enormous floods and earthquakes. Starvation and diseases occur quickly because of dead humans, busted human waste drains, dead animals and their waste.
It was recorded that the infamous 1931 Yellow River flood took place in one of the hot summers of China. The great flood took the lives of 1,000,000-4,000,000 people. It is considered the worst natural disaster ever to have been recorded of any time. Meanwhile, the previous holder of the “worst flooding disaster record”, the 1887 Yellow River flood, became the second worst flood of all time. It was caused by lengthy periods of rain which accumulated along the Yellow River bed which caused the river water to rise above man-made dikes. When that happened, 900,000-2,000,000 Chinese people lost their lives.
Bangladesh Records the Worst Hurricane Ever
The Bhola Cyclone of 1970 was the most horrible tropical hurricane ever to have been recorded. This category 3 hurricane struck East Pakistan (Bangladesh) on November 12, 1970. Practically 500,000 people lost their lives which included the 167,000 people located inside the city of Thana, Tazumuddin.
Third Worst Ever Flood Recorded In China
During the Japanese Occupation of China, the 1938 Yellow River flood was a flood created by the National Chinese Government to kill the Imperial Japanese Army under the command of Field Marshal Count Hisaichi Terauchi (1879-1946). There was a huge Chinese civilian body count as a result. Many Chinese citizens were uninformed to what the Chinese government was doing as this may have been one of the greatest disasters caused by people without the usage of machines.
Worst Earthquake in Chinese and World History
The 1556 Shaanxi Earthquake was the most calamitous earthquake ever to be witnessed and recorded. This earthquake which occurred in China killed 830,000 people in the morning of January 23, 1556 in 97 counties of the Shaanxi providences in China.
Others included are:
The 1839 India Cyclone in Coringa, India, the 1642 Kaifeng Flood in Henan Providence, China, the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami in various nations, the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake in China and the 1138 Aleppo Earthquake in Syria.
