Comic books have been very popular in the past. For our ancestors they were the ‘cool’ books, the once that are not boring. With the emergence of cinema and screened movies, comic books lost some of their popularity, but there remained a pretty large community that still respects and values the art of comics. In fact, there have been numerous movies, TV shows, toys and video games that are based on comics and comic superheroes. In fact, you will be able to find quite a few slot games, available at many online casinos that are also based on comic superheroes. Some of these slots are mobile-friendly and you could try them out on your mobile phone or tablet. Casinos were quick to realise the potential of mobile casino gaming and many of them now offer a mobile version in addition to the desktop casino.
Blade
Blade was one of the first modern comic book movies. Released in 1998 this movie showed the true potential of screened Marvel characters. Wesley Snipes played Blade, a mixture between a human being and a vampire, who actually protects people from other vampires. Blade earned $131.2 million world-wide and attained great popularity among the viewers. The movie had two sequels, Blade II and Blade: Trinity.
Sin City
Frank Miller’s Sin City is based on the comic book of the same name, written by the same person- Frank Miller. Sin City’s release was long awaited and the film grossed than $29 million during the first weekend. If you don’t remember, it starred Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Elijah Wood, Benicio Del Toro and Brittany Murphy. The movie is basically based on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th book of the original comic book series and it incorporates several stories into one. Sin City was released in 2005, whereas its sequel was first screened in 2014.
Thor
You may know Thor from Norse mythology and this movie is loosely based on fictional character of the son of Odin. Thor is the screen version of the eponymous Marvel comic book and it was released in 2011. The film earned almost $450 million in the box office. It starred Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins. In case you haven’t yet seen this movie, we strongly recommend that you do, even if you haven’t read the comic.
300
300 is another movie that is based on a comic book series that was written by Frank Miller. Released in 2006, this war fantasy is based on a fictional representation on the Battle of Thermopylae. The plot is simple, but also quite epic. King Leonidas, who is played by Gerard Butler leads three hundred Spartan men in a battle against Persia and her 300,000 soldiers. The film was quite successful, earning over $450 million. A sequel was released in 2014. This sequel is actually based on Miller’s prequel Xerxes which hasn’t been published.
Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America: The First Avenger presents an interesting story which involves one of America’s famous superheroes as the protagonist. The action is set in World War II, where a man from Brooklyn suddenly becomes superhero and is on a mission to help the Allies win the War and thus save the world. One sequel was released in 2014 and the second is expected this year. Chris Evans plays the role of Captain America.
Iron Man
Unlike several other Marvel comic heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man was not very popular amongst people who aren’t comic aficionados, as most other superheroes were known even before their Hollywood appearances. This wasn’t the case with Iron Man. However, after the movie was released in 2008, this superhero became highly popular. The movie itself grossed more than $585 million and was also favored by critics. Two sequels were released in 2010, and 2013.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man has featured a lot of status and was very popular as a comic, even in the previous millennium, so when it was announced that a movie is going to be released under the name Spider-Man, it wasn’t something unexpected. Sam Raimi managed to deliver a master-piece, and according to many, critics and fans alike, the 2002 version is the best film based on the character of Spider-Man so far. Tobey Maguire did an amazing job playing Spider-man. Kirsten Dunst, of course, was brilliant too. Two sequels were released, in 2004 and 2007.
X-Men: First Class
As you can see, in other instances, we favoured the first released movie, but it this case, the fifth instalment makes the list. Although, technically speaking, since First Class serves as a prequel to all previously released films, we’re still following the same pattern. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were just great in the roles of Charles Xavier/Professor X and Erik Lensherr/Magneto. This movie was released in 2011 and the box office earning were somewhat above $350 million.
The Dark Knight
A sequel to Batman Begins of 2005, The Dark Knight is Christopher Nolan, based, of course, on the famous DC character – Batman. Christian Bale was simply magnificent here and it’s small wonder that many consider him to be the best ‘Batman’. Although, we shouldn’t forget to mention Heath Ledger who played the probably most difficult role in the film – the role of the Joker. Released in 2008, the films earnings in the box office exceeded $1 billion. This movie was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and it won the Best Sound Editing award, whereas Ledger received, unfortunately posthumously, the Best Supporting Actor award.

Superman: The Movie
And last but not least, we’re going with a film that’s almost 4 decades old. A good comic movie is a good comic movie and there’s more to the plot than just mere special effects. Richard Donner interestingly wasn’t the first choice, but we can all be happy that eventually he was the one who got the chance to direct this masterpiece. If you don’t remember, Christopher Reeve starred as Superman and Hollywood legend Marlon Brando was Jor-El, his biological father.
