World Series of Darts Finals in Glasgow This Weekend

As he begins the defence of his World Series of Darts Finals this weekend, Dutchman Michael van Gerwen will first up have to see of the threat of either Gerwyn Price of Steve Beaton, with the duo set to meet in the day’s opening afternoon session to determine who gets the honour of facing the world number one ranked player. Having secured his third consecutive European Championship title in Belgium last week, Van Gerwen is unsurprisingly the favorite among the bookies to claim yet another trophy, with £155,000 on offer to the winner.

In what is one of the final darts tournaments of the year, last year’s competition saw Van Gerwen seal a nail bighting 11-10 win over Peter Wright in the final, and the Dutchman has not looked back since. With World Series events held in Dubai, Auckland, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney and Perth already this year, Mighty Mike tops the rankings thanks to two victories and three final appearances so far. This included an unbelievable 111.62 average on route to defeating MensurSuljovic last weekend. Elsewhere in this week’s draw, Joe Cullen will face off against Joe Murnan for the right to take on two-time world champion Gary Anderson. Anderson himself is seeded second having claimed victory in three World Series events in 2016, and could well be worth backing in the darts odds at the bookies. Meanwhile, in form Austrian Suljovic or Robert Thornton will face the legendary Phil Taylor.

With high class match-ups throughout the draw, last year’s beaten finalist Wright will go head-to-head with either Daryl Gurney or young English talent Josh Payne, with the latter winning his first senior PDC title earlier on this year.

A whole host of European players will be on display this weekend, with either Dutchman JelleKlaasen or Belgian Kim Huybrechts winning the right to take on Dave Chisnall, while either Germany’s Max Hopp or Spain’s Cristo Reyes will find themselves up against Adrian Lewis. Any one of these players could cause a shock victory on their day, so why not back an outsider in the darts betting odds for this weekend’s action.

In what is sure to be one of the most exciting competitions of the season due to its quick-fire nature, the tournament will conclude on Sunday, with quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals all taking place throughout the final day.
