Can the Ajax repeat the last year’s miracle?

the Ajax Can the Ajax repeat the last year's miracle?

The team which amazed the entire world last season was without a doubt the Ajax Amsterdam. The Dutch powerhouse and one of the most successful clubs on the Europan continent reached the semifinals of the Champions League. They were eliminated in that stage, after a shocking loss against Tottenham Hotspurs. The English team delivered a last-second dagger at Amsterdam Arena, coming back from 0-2, and winning 3-2 in the end.

Now, many of those fans who rooted for the Lancers wonder is it possible to see another spectacular season from this club?

That is a very complex question and a tricky one for answering. The Ajax suffered several huge changes in his roster, and it seems that they might lose a few more players during the winter transfer window.

UCL trophy Can the Ajax repeat the last year's miracle?

Right now, Ajax is the 13th favorite to win the UCL trophy with the odds from 40/1 to 60/1. These odds are oscillating on a daily basis, and you will need to follow them regularly. But if you decide to put some money on Ajax right away, check our unique offer  which is very good at the moment. A free bet and high odds might be an excellent situation for some of you punters who are believing in the four-time European champions, so check out Paddy Power’s offer. As for other favorites to win the UCL, Man City with 4/1 and Barca with 11/2 are the biggest ones.

On the other side, the Lancers are the No.1 favorite in their Dutch Eredivisie. With the odds at 10/13, they are ahead the biggest rival, PSV Eindhoven 6/4. The bookies predict a race between the two clubs, with all the other teams way behind them. Utrecht’s chances to take the trophy are 40/1, AZ Alkmaar’s 50/1, same as the former European Champions, Feyenoord.

Their captain and probably one of top 3 defenders in the world, Matthijs de Ligt signed for Juventus and will attack the Champions League from Turin. Meanwhile, Barcelona put its hands on Frenkie de Jong already during the past season, and one of the most creative players in Europe ended at Camp Nou.

Besides that, their spiritual mentor Lasse Schone decided to leave the club after many years of playing and go to Genoa.

On the other side, a bunch of young and talented players from all over the world came to Amsterdam.

very young and talented

Edson Alvares from America, Lisandro Martinez from Defensa, Kik Pierie, etc, all those guys are very young and talented and we aren’t familiar with their ceiling. Two more experienced guys who came, are Quincy Promes from Sevilla and Razvan Marin from Standard Liege. They will no doubt be excellent additions to Erik ten Hag’s crew.

Of course, there are the ones from the youth academy, which is the best on the planet. When we wrote about the best goals of all time here, three of them were delivered by the Ajax’s alumni.

The core of the team is still there. Dusan Tadic, David Neres, Hakim Ziyech, goalkeeper Onana, Blind, Tagliafico, and the rest. All of these guys with the above-mentioned arrivals might once again create a huge noise in the Champions League. But for the moment, the Lancers weren’t looking that confident, especially against PAOK in the qualifications.

Whether is that due to lack of games, or motivation, it doesn’t matter, but it was obvious that the Ajax isn’t on the same level as during the previous year. On the other hand, they often start the season very slow and shift into a higher gear later.

All in all, Ajax can’t be underestimated. They might not have a team full of superstars, but on the other hand, maybe some youngster is waiting to explode and become the new Bergkamp, Davids, Ibrahimovic or De Ligt.
